Family and Consumer Science

Welcome to my Family and Consumer Science Site! I am excited to begin another school year.
Let me tell you a little about me. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Family Resources from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I have also taken graduate classes at Kearney State College (now UNK) and have received additional endorsements to teach Middle Level Education.

My teaching experiences include student teaching at Fremont Senior High. My first job out of college was teaching at Sumner-Eddyville-Miller about 30 miles northwest of Kearney. I taught FCS (Home Economics when I started LOL), 7th grade Math, Life Science and Study Skills. For two years I taught half-time at SEM and half-time at Callaway, I also taught for two years at Overton where I taught FCS and 6th grade Language Arts/Reading. I started at Kearney High in 2008.

Although I have taught at various area schools, I have lived in Kearney since I graduated from college. I am married and my husband graduated from KHS and my step-daughter and three sons also graduated from KHS. Kearney High is a special place for me and my family. My step-daughter is an English/Drama teacher, our eldest son works with an architecture firm in Irvine, California, our middle son is a appraiser for the State of Nebraska Department of Transportation. Our youngest son will be attending college and plans to be an Elementary Teacher.

My favorite subjects to teach are Foods and Culinary courses. I teach Foods 1, Foods 2 and Culinary Arts. I have trained at Johnson and Wales in Denver and at St. Paul College in St. Paul, Minnesota. There is always something to learn and ways to grow. I enjoy working with the ProStart teams and we have had a lot of fun and learned a lot in the past. I also teach Clothing and Textiles and this holds a special place for me, also. I have been sewing from the age of 7 and even before that would "play" with Grandma's machine. I even had my own toy sewing machine to create with! I also greatly enjoy teaching Interior Design. You can probably guess that my favorite shows on television are either on the Food Network or on HGTV! I desire to instill the love for learning as well as a great life skills foundation for the students I teach.
