The Kearney High School Dance Catz, led by Head Coach Meggie Rusher, proudly serve as ambassadors for their school and community. They perform at school and community events, promote school spirit, and provide entertainment for both KHS fans and visiting teams. The team’s season runs from May to March, with tryouts held each April for the upcoming year. The 2024–2025 Dance Catz set a new standard of excellence, beginning their season at the 2024 UDA Summer Camp, where they earned 1st place in their competition routine, the prestigious Team Leadership Award, and the Full-Out Award, among several other honors.  Their season was capped off by a memorable performance at the Nebraska State Dance Championships, where they became the first team in school history to be named Class A State Champions in the High Kick division. They also earned 5th place in the Hip Hop division and received the NSAA Academic Excellence Award with a team-weighted GPA of 3.83, demonstrating their commitment to excellence both on the floor and in the classroom. In addition to their competitive season, the Dance Catz host several fundraisers and community events throughout the year, including the annual Dance Catz Golf Classic each summer and the popular Kitten Camp during the winter, where elementary students are invited to perform alongside the team.  The Dance Catz also actively serve their community through volunteer efforts at events such as Breakfast with Santa for the Kearney Area Children’s Museum, the Nebraska Girls Basketball Showcase, Crane River Theater, and local parades, among others.
