About JRTOC

The Kearney High School JROTC program is a leadership and citizenship development program that helps students build confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of community service. Through hands-on training, team activities, and opportunities for advancement, cadets learn important life skills such as responsibility, communication, and problem-solving. The program emphasizes respect, patriotism, and character while also encouraging students to stay active and involved in their school and community. Many participants find JROTC to be an excellent preparation for college, careers, and military service, but most importantly, it provides them with skills and experiences that will benefit them for a lifetime.

What is JROTC

The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) is a national high school program that helps students build leadership, citizenship, and character. While connected to the U.S. military, it is not a military preparation program. Instead, JROTC focuses on empowering students with skills that last a lifetime—discipline, teamwork, and a commitment to serving their community.

Program Highlights

  • A High School Program: Open to students in grades 9–12.

  • Focus on Leadership and Citizenship: The core mission is to develop strong citizens and confident leaders.

  • No Military Obligation: Participation does not require students to enlist in the military after graduation.

  • Led by Experienced Mentors: Units are guided by retired commissioned and non-commissioned officers who bring real-world knowledge and mentorship.

  • Skills Developed: Leadership and self-confidence, discipline and accountability, teamwork and communication, community service, and time management
