Kearney Tackles Cancer 2026
It’s that time of year! KHS and KCHS students are teaming up with CHI Good Samaritan Cancer Center to sell Kearney Tackles Cancer tshirts to raise funds to help patients going through treatment and raise awareness.
Since its inception in 2009, students have helped hundreds of patients and raised over $750,000.
Below, is a QR to the online store. Order forms will be distributed and available at schools in the front offices if you prefer to fill out a physical order form and can be turned into the school offices for pick up.
T-shirts will be distributed to schools or available for a pick up at a designated location after the clothes of the online store. Shirts will also be available for Cash and Carrie at Kearney High and Kearney Catholic. Watch for dates, times and location
October HOSA meeting
October HOSA meeting will be in the SDMI on Monday, October 12, at 6:30 PM. We will have a panel of physicians discussing their careers with opportunities for you to ask questions about what path they took to get them into their current careers. Bring a friend and see you there!
Thespian Troupe #`1811 October Meeting
The Thespian Troupe monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, October 13, 3:45 pm in the blackbox (H102). Thespian Festival information and Halloween Trunk or Treat will be discussed.
Key Club October service opportunity
Key Club's October service opportunity will be on Tuesday, October 13 starting at 5:30 PM. We will be helping with the Kearney United Way's CommUNITY event at the fairgrounds. We are helping to clean up the event so check SportsYou to see where to meet and Mr Brandt will let you know when we are all done. Bring a friend and help our friends at United Way!
National Honor Society
Fall 2026 National Honor Society (NHS) application information: Eligibility: Open to Kearney High School Juniors and Seniors. Current NHS members do not need to reapply. Deadline: All completed applications and teacher recommendations are due to the Counseling Office by Thursday, October 15, 2026, by 4:00 PM.1 GPA Requirement: A minimum 3.85 weighted GPA is required (verify via Parchment). Attendance Requirement: Applicants are allowed no more than five unexcused blocks (three tardies equal one unexcused block). This message contains important information regarding the Fall 2026 National Honor Society (NHS) application process. Please review the details below carefully to ensure all requirements are completed accurately and submitted on time.
Current NHS Members
Students who are currently active NHS members are not required to submit a new application.
Application Timeline
● Applications Available: Friday, October 2, 2026 in the Counseling Office and Online
● Submission Deadline: All completed application materials must be submitted to the Counseling Office no later than Thursday, October 15, 2026, by 4:00 PM.
Please note that late applications will not be accepted.
Application Requirements & Reminders
Attendance
Any first-term attendance concerns must be resolved with the Attendance Office prior to submitting your application.
● The attendance requirement allows no more than five unexcused blocks.
● Three tardies equal one unexcused block.
Application Packet
Paper application packets are available in the Counseling Office. Each packet includes the required teacher recommendation forms including one for Bearcat Time.
GPA Requirement
Applicants must have a minimum 3.85 weighted GPA. Please request your official transcript through Parchment to verify eligibility prior to submitting your application.
Teacher Recommendations (Six Recommendation Forms)
● Applicants are required to obtain recommendations from all current Term 1 teachers, including their Bearcat Time teacher.
● Example: If you have three classes plus Bearcat Time, you will need four recommendations.
● Study Hall teachers count toward this requirement.
● Teachers may return completed recommendation forms directly to the Counseling Office or to Mr. Wagner (Room D110).
● All recommendation forms must be submitted by Thursday, October 15, 2026, by 4:00 PM.

KHS Band Fundraising Night at Culver’s
Dine at Culver’s on Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 5-8 PM and support the KHS Band! We will be working for tips and earn a percentage of the sales. Please dine in, drive thru or carry out!
Leadership Opportunity
The freshman HOBY Leadership Workshop will be Saturday, October 24, 2026 from 9:15am -2:30 pm at the Kearney Area Community Foundation. There is no cost for this event. This is separate from the sophomore HOBY Leadership Conference. You must be nominated by a school official to attend this event. If you are interested in attending please email Ms Farlee (corfarlee@kearneycats.com) or stop by the counseling office by Friday, October 9.
Sophomore HOBY
Sophomore Leaders, If you are interested in building your leadership skills, we have an opportunity for you! We will be selecting sophomores to represent Kearney High at the HOBY Youth Leadership Conference this summer. At this conference you will learn more about your leadership style, connect with leaders from around the state, make a positive impact and build lasting friendships. If you are interested in attending this conference please stop by the counseling office to sign up. The deadline to sign up is October 16. If you have questions, please email Ms Farlee, stop by the counseling office or visit hoby.org. This is separate from the freshman HOBY event.
STUDENT ACTIVITY PASS INFO
KHS Students - for those of you that pre-purchased a Hudl 2026-27 KHS Student Activity Pass - we will be emailing you this week to the email address provided when purchased, likely your school email. Please watch for an email coming from ticketing@app.hudl.com.

Bearcat Corner Online Store Now Live!
From now until the end of the year, the Bearcat Corner online store will be fulfilling online orders Monday - Friday during school hours. Deliveries will be made to KPS students/staff at their respective schools or can be picked up in the KHS 'Big K' office

College Visits
Representatives from various colleges will be visiting KHS again this year. All juniors and seniors are welcome to sign up to attend any of the colleges they may be interested in learning more about. You must sign up no later than 4pm the day before the visit. Please sign up by following the link above and filling out the google doc.
