Specific concepts to be introduced, strengthened, or mastered include adapting one’s message to the audience, utilizing persuasive appeals, sound argument structure, proficient use of rebuttal strategies, complete character analysis, and mastery of interpretation principles.

Creating

Students will compose various speech manuscripts as well as the necessary supplemental material for each performance type including outlines and visual aids.

Presenting

All units will culminate in either live performance in front of the class or in the form of published

videos on the class Canvas page.

Responding

Students will employ rubric-based peer- and self-evaluations in preparation for final presentation, engage in a question and answer session aimed at challenging the logic of the arguments made, experience real-time challenges to their ideas and offer their own challenges of their opponent’s ideas, and refine small group communication skills.

Connecting
